PM back home: Visit a big success: FM

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina returned home Saturday from Saudi Arabia, her first official overseas trip, reports bdnews24.com.
The prime minister was received by deputy leader Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and the three chiefs of staff, among others, as her Biman Bangladesh flight touched down at Zia International Airport around 2:30pm.
Hasina left for Riyadh on Apr. 20 at the invitation of King Abdullah bin Abdullah Aziz Al Saud.
Foreign minister Dipu Moni and state minister Hasan Mahmud, overseas employment minister Khandker Musharraf Hossain and state minister Monnuzan Sufian, Hasina''s sister Sheikh Rehana and son Sajib Wazed Joy accompanied her.
The prime minister met with the Saudi King on Apr 21. He assured her of solving the problems of some two million Bangladeshi workers in the oil-rich country and allowing more Bangladeshi workers into the kingdom. Hasina also attended a views-exchange meeting with Bangladeshi expatriates and performed Umrah in Mecca.
Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Saturday termed "very fruitful" Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina''s five-day Saudi visit that saw resolution of expatriate Bangladeshis'' major problems in the kingdom.
"It''s a big success . . . from now on Bangladeshis will not have to return home losing jobs due to akama (work permit) problems," Moni told newsmen at Zia International Airport on return home along with the prime minister.
The foreign minister said Saudi King Abdullah bin Aziz al- Saud instantly promised to solve the "akama" issue as approached by Hasina after he called her "younger sister" during the meeting at Riyadh Conference Palace. "The king instantly assured our prime minister of solving the problem as she sought his intervention as a `sister'' after he addressed her as his `younger sister''," Moni said.
Until now, Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia did not have any scope to change their workplace ending the work period in one particular employment keeping the same work permit or `akama''. The foreign minister said during the meeting King Abdullah also expressed his interest to take more manpower from Bangladesh while the manpower export to Saudi Arabia was long been halted. "From now on, the manpower export to Saudi Arabia will start again . . . this is another major success of her visit," Moni said.
Hasina left Dhaka at the midnight of April 20 while this was the first meeting of a Bangladeshi head of the government with the Saudi king in seven years.
The minister said Hasina also directed the Bangladesh embassy in Saudi Arabia to quickly respond to the problems of Bangladeshi expatriates in the oil-rich kingdom.
She also assured the expatriate Bangladeshis of taking all steps so they did not face any harassment at the airport on their return home as they hosted several receptions in her honour during the visit.
Hasina urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to invest in their homeland for the welfare of the country while attending these receptions saying they could make the investments through the Expatriate Welfare Bank.
She also assured them of extending all cooperation to the Election Commission in introducing any system to allow expatriates to cast their votes.
Ahead of leaving Saudi Arabia this morning, Moni said, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) President Dr Ahmed Mohammad Ali called on the prime minister at Jeddah Airport and assured her of more cooperation for development projects in Bangladesh by his bank.
Hasina went to Saudi Arabia on an invitation by the Saudi King. During the visit, she performed umrah, prayed at the Masjid-e-Nabobi and the Rawza Mobarak of the holy Prophet Muhammad (SM).
The Prime Minister''s entourage included her younger sister Sheikh Rehana and son Sajib Wajed Joy, the foreign minister, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment and Labour and Manpower Minister Engineer Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, state Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Hassan Mahmud, State Minister for Labour and Manpower Munnujan Sufian, Awami League Presidium member Kazi Zafarullah and Prime Minister''s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were members of.
