George Clooney Biography
George Clooney isn't holding a grudge against more than two dozen hospital workers who peeked at his medical records after he was treated for a motorcycle accident. An official at Palisades Medical Center in New Jersey says 27 employees were suspended for four weeks because of the authorized snooping.
Clooney broke a rib and suffered scrapes in the September 21 accident on a narrow road in Weehawken, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from New York City. His passenger Sarah Larson, broke her foot. Clooney was in the New York area to film the dark comedy Burn After Reading. Production was expected to go ahead as scheduled.
"While I very much believe in a patient's right to privacy, I would hope that this could be settled without suspending medical workers," Clooney said in a statement Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2007). A spokeswoman for the union representing some of the workers said as many as seven of the employees may have been authorized to view the records.
Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Clooney is the son of former television presenter, Nick Clooney. He studied journalism at Northern Kentucky University before heading for Los Angeles to try his luck at acting. He became well-known for his role as Dr Doug Ross in the TV series ER (1994–9).
Film credits include Batman and Robin (1997), Wild, Wild West (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000, Best Comedy Actor Golden Globe), and Ocean's Twelve (2004). In 2003 he made his directorial debut with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, following this with Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), a biopic of news legend Ed Murrow.
In 2006, in an effort to draw attention to what’s been called the 21st century’s first genocide, Clooney and his television-anchor father smuggled cameras into Darfur refugee camps. He later headlined the Save Darfur rally in Washington D.C.
